Hi! My name is Shruthi Kumar and I am currently a student at Harvard College. I created this website so I could share with you what I do and how that has made me who I am! 

 

My high school journey was filled with transformation, self-discovery, and inspiration. If you are just entering high school, I hope this website inspires you to create your own story, embrace your interests and passions, and empowers you to break barriers and influence change!

2019 NSDA ORIGINAL ORATORY FINALIST

2019 National Speech and Debate Association: 250 Original Oratory competitors, advancing through 13 rounds of competition, I placed 5th overall in the final round of Original Oratory! Watch my speech and click to read more about my experience!

Voice of Democracy

I was named the 2019-2020 Voice of Democracy National First Place Winner. My speech was on the theme, "What Makes America Great." I won a $30,000 college scholarship, and I was sponsored by VFW Post 1581 in Omaha, Nebraska. Watch as I delivered my winning speech during the Parade of Winners ceremony at the 2020 VFW Legislative Conference.

2020 Valedictorian Speaker

As a graduate of Marian High School, I was honored to be named the Valedictorian of the Class of 2020. Click to watch my commencement speech.

2018 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS OF YOGA SPORTS

I was the First Indian-American to represent Team USA at the World Championship of Yoga Sports. I competed in the Youth-Women Division and finished in 7th place in the final round of competition! Watch my performance and read more!

2019 DIANA AWARD HOLDER

The Diana Award is awarded from the Princess Diana Foundation. Their website says that "this year’s Diana Award Recipients represent some of the most inspirational young people from across the UK and around the world. These exceptional young people have demonstrated their ability to inspire and mobilise new generations to serve their communities and create long lasting change on a global scale."

FOUNDER OF GOYOGI LLC

1,800 students and faculty practice mindfulness every morning before starting school. In 2017, I founded a non-profit to raise awareness for the necessity of mental health education in schools. My background and research led me to mindfulness and meditation as tangible solution. I have implemented my mental health education program in several institutions! Read more below!

UNMC NEUROSCIENCE RESEARCH

This summer I was awarded the Travis B. Lewis Scholarship to research at the University of Nebarska Medical Center in the Experimental Neuroscience and Pharmacology Department..

Omaha World-Herald All State Academic Team

For my academic achievements, I was recognized by the Omaha World Herald as part of the 2020 All Metro Academic First Team and the 2020 All State Academic Team.

HIGHLIGHT OF THE PAST: PUBLISHED AUTHOR

My sophomore year, my poetry was published in the Summer 2017 edition of “Creative Communication Celebration of Poets.”  The America Library of Poetry published my poem "The IT Girl" in their book of student poetry entitled Treasured. Click the photo to read about it!

NEBRASKA SCHOOL BOARD ASSOCIATION PRESENTATION

On November 15, 2019 I presented to the Nebraska School Board Association, Senator Cavanaugh, and several other community specialists about mental health and mindfulness in schools. We discussed the role of the educator, the benefits, and challenges of implementing mindfulness in schools. It was a great step forward for the state of Nebraska in implementing and expanding the greater mindfulness movement.

COCA-COLA SCHOLARSHIP SEMIFINALIST

I was named as a Coca-Cola Semifinalist for the 2020 class of the Coca-Cola Scholars Program. I was chosen from over 93,000 applicants for my outstanding leadership, academic achievements, and dedication to my community. 

Semifinalist applications will be reviewed in January. After which, 250 will advance as regional finalists, with 150 becoming Coca-Cola Scholars and receiving a $20,000 scholarship. The Coca-Cola Scholars Program is the largest corporate-sponsored, achievement-based scholarship program in the United States.

VETERANS OF FOREIGN WARS -- VOICE OF DEMOCRACY WINNER

I am the 1st place winner for the Veterans of Foreign Wars Voice of Democracy Contest. I gave a speech about What Makes America Great, and my speech is now advancing to the State level of Competition.
